Ben Harvey Leads Team Alberta to Victory at the 2024 WHL Cup

The Junior Oilers proudly celebrate Ben Harvey’s remarkable achievements at the 2024 WHL Cup, where he captained Team Alberta to its sixth championship in team history. Harvey’s skill and leadership were pivotal throughout the tournament, culminating in an 8-1 victory over Team Manitoba in the final.

Harvey, drafted 4th overall by the Prince Albert Raiders in the 2024 WHL Draft, showcased his immense talent on one of the biggest stages for young players. The WHL Cup, held October 23-25 in Red Deer, brought together the top 2009-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Harvey’s contributions were critical to Team Alberta’s success, both on and off the ice.

Team Alberta’s journey to the championship was filled with highs and lows. The team began the tournament with a 5-2 loss to Team Saskatchewan but bounced back with a 5-2 win over Team Manitoba, thanks in large part to Harvey’s natural hat trick. A 2-0 shutout loss to Team British Columbia in the final round-robin game placed Alberta third in the standings and set up a rematch with Team Saskatchewan in the semifinals. The team’s resilience and determination carried them into the final against Team Manitoba, where they delivered a dominant 8-1 performance to claim the championship.

As captain, Harvey led by example throughout the tournament, showcasing his ability to thrive under pressure and rally his team in challenging moments. Reflecting on the experience, Harvey shared his perspective on the importance of resilience: “Even when things got difficult, there was never a time to back down or quit.”

This WHL Cup victory is another milestone in Harvey’s already impressive career. With his sights set on joining the Prince Albert Raiders, Harvey’s leadership and talent continue to pave the way for a bright future in hockey.
